Mine gas from operating mines contains a methane concentration of 25 % up to 60 %. It is extracted from the working by degassing the caved area and the area in front of it. Subsequently it is sucked to the surface through piping. Then it is compressed and transferred to the Block Heat and Power Plant.
Combustion is proceeded in a conventional gas engine, which drives an electricity generator. An additional benefit arises from the utilisation of the emerging engine and exhaust-gas heat.
